International Experience

SCIC Member Organizations and many other organizations offer work, volunteer and solidarity trips to locations all over the world. Here are a few organizations that are frequently sending volunteers.

Member Programs

Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA)

CCA offers 6-12 month International Youth Internships to recent university graduates. They focus largely on the formation of cooperatives, which help participants gain a better understanding of the use of coops in underdeveloped nations. More Information.

Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR)

Through its We Serve program, CLWR facilitates a limited number of volunteer placements overseas for periods of six months to two years. Volunteer interests and abilities are matched with requests from partner organizations on a case-by-case basis. More information.

Crossroads International

Crossroads International offer international volunteer opportunities in Africa, South America and Asia.Participants must be 19 years of age or older and most volunteer placements are typically six months, but do vary. More Information.

Cuso International

Cuso International offers a variety of volunteer placements ranging from 3-24 months for youth, professionals, and members of diaspora communities, including in-country and E-volunteering opportunities. Cuso International works on three main focus areas, which include community, health, and livelihoods. More Information.

Engineers without Borders (EWB)

EWB offers a wide range of volunteer placements for both engineering and non-engineering university students. Placements are offered in a number of countries in Africa and focus on development within each of these countries. EWB chapters, in each university, offer individual opportunities each year. More Information.

HOPE International Development Agency

Through the Understanding Needs in Other Nations (UNION) education program, you’ll experience poverty, struggle, development and hope alongside those in the developing world, and explore your place in the world to respond. More information.

Inter Pares

Inter Pares works to support organizations and activists working in their own countries to confront injustice. These collaborations are not one-way “helping” relationships, but a two-way collaborative relationship. Each year, Inter Pares hosts a solidarity tour to visit their partners. The objective of the tour is to explore and deepen solidarity with counterparts by sharing experiences, building relationships, learning from one another, bearing witness, and working for change in one’s own context. Generally, a limited number of places are reserved for youth participants. More information.

Mennonite Central Committee Canada

MCC Canada has opportunities for a variety of international placements ranging from peacebuilding, refugee work, health, education, and community development for those who qualify. In particular, their youth programs, including Uprooted and SALT (Serving and Learning Together) provide a unique opportunity to learn and build peace. More information.

United Nations Association in Canada

The International Development & Diplomacy Internship Programme (IDDIP, formerly known as UNPP Programme) provides a unique avenue for qualified and motivated Canadian graduates and professionals to participate in the United Nations system as Junior Professional Consultants (JPCs). There are ongoing opportunities for application and intake bi-annually. Applicants are encouraged to apply during the months of January & February and again in May & June of each year. Uniterra

Uniterra offers a variety of placements, including short and long term volunteering, student placements, and corporate volunteering. Uniterra also hosts an annual international student seminar, where youth across the world work collaboratively on projects over 2-5 weeks. Uniterra is a joint program of World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and the International Centre for Studies and Cooperation (CECI). More information.

World Renew

World Renew’s Global Volunteer Program connects you to ministry. Whether you are interested in a one-week work team, a tour to visit program sites, a six month placement, or a multi-year internship, World Renew has a place for you. In addition to these volunteer opportunities, World Renew has a special program that connects volunteer International Relief Managers with opportunities to manage disaster response projects overseas. Other Programs

Global Affairs Canada

Global Affairs Canada provides internship positions to Canadian graduates between the ages of 19-30 years of age. This program provides recent graduates with international experience which has the potential to assist them to find a successful career path. All projects that interns participate in are focused on international development issues. More Information.

Canada World Youth

Youth Leaders in Action Program is a six month volunteer program taking place both in Canada and overseas.Participants must be between the ages of 17-25. Canada World Youth covers the majority of the costs with a few exceptions. More Information.

Youth Challenge International

The Youth Ambassador Program is a 5-10 week volunteer program for individuals 18 years and older. This program is offered all year round, in many different countries. Applications for this program are taken at any time of the year. More Information.

EQWIP HUBs

EQWIP HUBs is a network of 17 global youth innovation spaces where youth – especially women – come together to develop market-relevant skills, build networks, learn from mentors, and access technology. Located in Bolivia, Ghana, Indonesia, Peru, Senegal and Tanzania, the hubs offer 1-year and 3-month placements for youth aged 21-35. More information
